Caprese Michelangelo is a charming village in the province of Arezzo named after the famous Master sculptor of the Renaissance, Michelangelo Buonarotti. Situated in Val Tiberina, Caprese Michelangelo thrives from its main industry of growing fruit, vegetables and flowers. The colour and fresh smells that surround this enchanting place are truly a feast for the senses!
This quiet little part of Tuscany, situated about 100 kilometres east of Florence is home to beautiful old churches, delicious restaurants and a fine museum and library built in honour of its most famous son, Michelangelo.
There are some spectacular old buildings here dating back to the Etruscan and Roman times that bear a wonderful testament to the talents of these ancient civilisations. Walk around the ruins of the once majestic castle that stood guard over Caprese or embark on some scenic walking and cycling trails that meander through the area.
A mouth-watering chestnut festival takes place in Caprese Michelangelo in early October where visitors can taste these delicious roasted nuts during the street fair or savour the rich flavour of chestnut bread among other tasty local dishes.
